Tourist Experiences

Red train on snowy mountain bridge.

The Bernina Express is an iconic narrow-gauge railway connecting Tirano (Italy) to St. Moritz or Chur (Switzerland), crossing the Bernina Massif. It is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site for its spectacular engineering and seamless integration into the high-alpine environment. It is the highest adhesion railway in the Alps, reaching 2,253 meters (Ospizio Bernina) without using cogwheels, overcoming steep gradients with incredible structures like the circular Brusio Spiral Viaduct. The route offers stunning, rapidly changing landscapes, moving from glaciers and snowfields down to the vineyards of the Valtellina valley. It is an unforgettable year-round attraction, famous for its panoramic carriages.

Bagni nuovi

The thermal resort of Bormio is composed of two distinct, highly renowned complexes—the Bagni Vecchi (Old Baths) and the Bagni Nuovi (New Baths)—both utilizing Bormio’s ancient, mineral-rich, naturally warm waters.

The Bagni Vecchi offer a journey through history with facilities dating back over two millennia, including the ancient Roman Baths. Its unique feature is the series of natural steam caves, leading directly to an ancient thermal spring, with the experience culminating in a stunning outdoor panoramic pool overlooking the Alps.

The Bagni Nuovi, centered in a magnificent Art Nouveau building, provide a modern and luxurious spa experience. This complex is distinguished by its extensive monumental park and outdoor wellness path, featuring multiple outdoor pools and hot tubs immersed in a refined garden setting. Together, the two sites offer a complete wellness experience, blending historical charm with contemporary Alpine luxury.

Sentiero Valtellina

The Sentiero Valtellina is a dedicated cycle and pedestrian path running approximately 114 kilometers along the Adda River, through the heart of the Valtellina valley. The route connects the town of Colico on Lake Como to the alpine resort of Bormio in the Upper Valtellina. It is renowned for being largely flat and easily accessible, making it suitable for cyclists and walkers of all levels, including families. The path winds through diverse and stunning landscapes, offering scenic views of the famous terraced vineyards, lush apple orchards, historic villages, and castles. Numerous rest stops and picnic areas are conveniently available along the route, which runs parallel to the railway line, allowing for easy public transportation and staged exploration. The trail is considered a vital greenway linking the high Alps down to Lake Como.
